|Designing this mural project has been a collaborative effort between myself and Susan Jessup, the proprietor at Sylvan Dale. Susan's parents began the current era of the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch in 1946. It has been a fascinating design process and has improved continuously since our first small steps.
Included are the human history of the area, the natural history, the Jessup family's history, and a representation of the western lifestyle. The designs include 17 people, 2 dogs, 4 buildings, 9 horses, 19 cows, 7 wild animals, 8 wild birds, 3 fish, numerous mountains and trees, and one beautiful river. Together these things will tell an amazing story, illustrating an important history.
Two scale models of the large heart sculpture were built along the way, helping us to organize all the elements visually. The painting of the big heart is now underway and we're currently making decisions about how best to portray everything in paint. There is still much work to be done, but in the coming weeks things will begin to come into final focus and it will be something to behold. Stay tuned for future updates!
